Hey Burners and friends alike are you curious about our sister Burn down in Africa? I recently sent some LED coats to some customers attending and thought ya'll might be curious about it.

What is Afrikaburn 2022?

AfrikaBurn is a community of participants who come together to create temporary city of art, theme camps, music, mutant vehicles and much, much more.  All of this is created through a volunteer and gifting culture.  Much like Nevada's Burning Man there are crazy outfits, surreal art installations, music stages, performers, and all-night parties. 

Is there a theme?

Each​ ​year,​ ​​AfrikaBurn​ ​adopts​ ​a​ ​new​ ​theme​ ​that​ ​embodies​ ​the​ ​inspiration​ ​of​ ​the​ ​event’s artwork. 2022 Theme: The Elastic Kraal-Art Burning Test.

Where is Afrikaburn 2022?

Quaggafontein in the Tankwa Karoo, in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa since 2007.  You can fly into Cape Town and need a 4x4 vehicle to drive 185 miles on a long and rough gravel road to get there.  The Burn is centered on the construction of temporary artworks in a semi-desert environment, some of which are burnt towards the end of the event. The weather can range from desert hot to arctic cold at night.

Seven days April 25-May 1 2022.

How many people go to AfrikaBurn?

It is the largest arts festival in Africa drawing more than 13,000 people.

Where to stay?

The​ ​AfrikaBurn​ ​is​ ​a​ ​self-sufficient​ ​event.​ ​There​ ​are​ ​no​ ​hotels​ ​or​ ​lodging options​ ​nearby,​ ​meaning​ ​you​ ​will​ ​need​ ​to​ ​bring​ ​all​ ​camping​ ​equipment​ ​necessary​ ​for​ ​the​ ​event.  Bring plenty​ ​of​ ​water​ ​for​ ​drinking,​ ​cleaning​ ​and​ ​washing​ ​as​ ​hydration​ ​will​ ​be​ ​vital​ ​to your​ ​experience.

Is there an Afrikaburn lineup?

Afrikaburn is not officially a music festival so there are never any set times or acts confirmed. It will be up to you to find the music and follow it.

What is the philosophy of AfrikaBurn?

The nature of this regional event is to explore and immerse yourself in whatever is playful, entertaining or beautiful. It follows a strict leave-no-trace policy which means there are no trash bins.  Pack in, pack it out. There are toilets provided.

Are there vendors?

No​ ​money​ ​is​ ​allowed. Event​ ​organizers​ ​encourage​ ​participants​ ​to​ ​celebrate​ ​with​ ​transparency.​ ​The​ ​AfrikaBurn​ ​does not​ ​have​ ​any​ ​vendors,​ ​branding,​ ​sponsors​ ​or​ ​anything​ ​for​ ​purchase.​ ​ Only ice is for sale.

Do they burn anything?

The​ ​burning​ ​of​ ​the​ ​Clan​ ​sculpture ​is​ ​the​ ​physical representation​ ​of​ ​the​ ​spirit​ ​of​ ​AfrikaBurn​ ​and​ ​is​ ​made​ ​up​ ​of​ ​one​ ​torso,​ ​several​ ​heads​ ​and​ ​many legs.​ ​The​ ​design​ ​serves​ ​as​ ​a​ ​visual​ ​indication​ ​of​ ​unity​ ​for​ ​the​ ​festival’s​ ​members.
