What is AfrikaBurn?

AfrikaBurn 2024 beckons you to partake in an adventure across galaxies, to uncharted realms, via a shimmering wormhole and beyond. Let it be known that the theme for AfrikaBurn 2024 is "Creation".  This year's AfrikaBurn takes place April 30th - May 5th in the Tankwa Karoo desert, located between the Northern Cape and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.

AfrikaBurn is a week-long celebration of art, self-expression, and community, where participants from all walks of life come together to create a temporary city in the middle of the desert. At AfrikaBurn, attendees are encouraged to express themselves creatively and participate in a variety of activities, such as live music performances, art installations, workshops, and interactive experiences.

Not to be missed are the nightly burns every night between 6-8 pm. The burns are symbolic because they represent the impermanence of the city, and life in general.  They are the essence of the event and what it stands for.

The event operates on a gifting economy, where goods and services are freely exchanged without the use of money. This creates a unique environment of generosity and communal living, where everyone is invited to contribute in their own way.

AfrikaBurn is a Burning Man regional event that follows the guiding Ten Principles of Burning Man.  In 201, an 11th principle was added, Each One Teach One –this principle encourages the sharing of knowledge between participants.

Overall, AfrikaBurn is a one-of-a-kind experience that celebrates the beauty of human connection and creativity.

What Should You Wear to AfrikaBurn?

Deciding what to wear to AfrikaBurn can be a daunting task, especially if it's your first time attending. However, it's important to remember that there are no strict rules when it comes to fashion at this event.
